PSA CASE STUDY |
||
Whilst in the Hi Phi Phi Office on May 1st I was reunited with Chad, a local longtail boatman on the island who I had played volleyball with many times back in Oct and Dec 2004.
On December 23rd he had taken Piers, Ben, Sophie and me out on his boat to Phi Phi Leh for the morning. It was a fantastic way to spend Christmas eve. I last saw Chad on the hill just after the tsunami had swept through – he was frantic, looking for his wife. He asked if I had seen her and I asked if he had seen Piers. His wife worked at Phi Phi Charlie Resort – it simply does not exist anymore. Chad’s wife died – he found her at the morgue in Krabi Town on 30th December – 1 day before we found Piers. He also lost his father, sister-in-law and cousin and……his boat got demolished. That is where the PSA comes in!! At present Chad is working for Hi Phi Phi earning 300 baht a day cleaning and tidying the town. His business and livelihood was on the water – it is where he belongs. Chad can become the first PSA project which seems rather fitting considering Piers as one of his last passengers! |
