CHALLENGES


In February 2000, to mark the Millenium, Piers and I embarked on our first charity challenge cycling 450 miles through Rajasthan in India raising money for the National Deaf Children's Society.
It was an unforgettable adventure, giving us our first taste of fundraising and my first real experience of a foreign culture. We relished the challenge of the expedition, setting ourselves goals in training and fundraising until we had crossed the finish line and reached our targets.  Joined by 92 other charity challenge cyclists we also made some life long friends.  I was hooked on all aspects and upon my return I signed up to run the New York marathon for Get Kids Going that November.

The PSA are happy to be linked with the charity challenge company Across The Divide who run some incredible 'Just Events' offering you an unforgettable trip and the chance to raise valuable funds in the process.

EVENTS

There are a multitude of events out there ready for you to sign up for or attend - often the hardest part is choosing which one to do.  From walks, hikes and treks through to runs, triathlons, adventure races and swims there is something for everybody.  And if there isn't, why not tailor make your own event to help raise funds for the Piers Simon Appeal?.

Events don't always have to be physically challenging in nature.  We have had fundraisers run plant sales, loose weight, bake cakes, charity balls and host dinner parties all to help our PSA cause.  Why not challenge yourself to come up with a unique event that will attract donors attention?  And if you need some support, we are here to help: Contact Us

PSA / SIAB EVENTS

CYCLE DAY RIDES

Throughout the year, the PSA and SIAB team organise Cycle Day Rides in association with Rock and Road Cycles of Yeovil. Cycle Day Rides are quick fundraisers, run with the sole purpose of getting people out on their bikes and bringing riders together in a sociable day whilst raising some PSA funds.


The rides are split into two separate routes of a shorter ride approx. 30 miles and a longer 70+ miler to suit abilities, and fitness levels! The shorter rides are accompanied by a support van whilst on the longer routes the cyclists are self-sustained.

Fundraising: by entry fee or through GETTING SPONSORED

CYCLE CHALLENGES

Entry: A place on a challenge is secured by an entry fee - this covers the costs of x2 bespoke cycle tops.

Fundraising:
Option 1: Total Sponsorship package – money raised through sponsorship pays for the expenses and makes a donation to PSA
Option 2: Personal Expenses/Sponsorship package – expenses for the trip are paid for by the participant and sponsorship makes up the minimum donation to PSA.

HOME FARM FEST

Home Farm Fest, held in June every year is PSA's single biggest fundraiser.  Held at the PSA headquarters on Home Farm in Chilthorne Domer, Home Farm Festival is a weekend full of live music, food and fundraising.


From 2006 - 2011 Home Farm Festivals has raised almost £85,000 thanks to the generosity of musicians, suppliers, technicians and volunteers who all donate their time and resources in order to keep our overheads to an absolute minimum.

GETTING SPONSORED

The most effective way of getting sponsored for PSA is online through the Just Giving PSA Online account.   Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your payment details are safe with Just Giving – they will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate via credit/debit card, they will send your money directly to PSA and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, adding an extra 28p to every £1 donated!  So...... it's the most efficient way to donate - you raise more, you save time and you reduce the administration costs for us.  Easy!

So, you've taken the plunge and signed up for an event/challenge to raise funds for PSA…brilliant…now it's time to start collecting sponsorship.

Having your own sponsorship page means friends, colleagues and relatives have the chance to make donations to you online using a debit or credit card, all via the secure payment system. To make a donation takes less than one minute.
Remember: To personalise your page and keep it updated - this will inform your donors of your progress.

Paper sponsorship 
If your fundraising campaign involves you being out in the public sector or amongst potential donors who do not have online access, then having a paper sponsorship form is the way to go.   Download your PSA Sponsorship Form here

Remember to get UK tax payers to tick the Gift Aid box on the form.  This will allow us to add an extra 28p to every £1 of their donation.

Sponsor a Friend 
Show your support to a friend and help them reach the fundraising target of their event/challenge by donating on their profile page.  Click on the link: http://www.justgiving.com/ and type their name in the 'Sponsor a Friend' section.
















RECYCLE FOR PSA

Nowadays, even your recycling can help raise funds for the PSA. The process is simple:

Register on the Recycle4Charity page and choose PSA as your beneficiary.

Order your free post envelopes or free post box (for 50 items). Send your empty ink jet cartridges, laser toners old mobile phones back to Recycle4Charity 

PSA receives £1 for every ink jet cartridge, up to £5 for every laser toner and up to £30 for every phone.

All we need is a couple of minutes to go through your details and any questions. Once we have your okay, we organise a collection agent who calls you to arrange a convenient pick-up time (you don't even have to be there).

2. Your car is picked up

A tow truck usually arrives within 1 to 3 days to pick up your car, though in a few rare cases it may take up to 10 days.

3. Your donation is made

Your car is sent to scrap or auction. We then donate all the proceeds, after administrative costs, to a charity of your choice. We send you a receipt for your donation, and so will the charity. Both of these receipts should arrive within 6 weeks.

How much can I raise?

Every car is different, but they all will create a valuable donation. If your car's roadworthy, we may be able to raise much more by selling it at auction. We deal with hundreds of cars, so we know how to get the best value – often trade prices which are higher than private sales.

Buyers can shop for items knowing they're supporting a good cause, be it an everyday bargain or a special auction. OUR VOLUNTEERS


Volunteers are a hugely important part of the PSA pie.  They embrace the spirit of our mission with an abundance of enthusiasm and good will.  

Without their dedication and time, PSA would cease to function in the same capacity, particularly during any of the PSA run events where our body of volunteers are vital to the smooth running of the operation.

From SchoolBag packing, to shopping bag packing – from street collection to knitting teddies………the PSA volunteers come from all walks of life.

    COUNTER COLLECTION TINS

    Do you run or work in a shop, catering van, office, cafeteria or anywhere where over the counter money is exchanged?

    If so, please consider having a PSA collection tin on your counter for people to drop their loose change or make donations. Filled up, a typical collection tin raises approximately £25.
